FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Power Automate used for?

Power Automate automates repetitive work across Microsoft 365 and other apps: approvals, reminders, notifications, file handling, data sync and document generation. Cloud flows run in Microsoft's cloud; desktop flows automate apps on a Windows PC.

Which flow type should I use?

Automated flows start from an event, like a new SharePoint item. Instant flows start from a button, and scheduled flows run on a timetable. Desktop flows automate apps and websites that don't have connectors.

Do I need a premium licence?

Many SharePoint, Outlook and Teams flows use standard connectors included with Microsoft 365. Premium connectors, such as Dataverse and HTTP, need a Power Automate premium licence. Our tutorials say when a solution needs premium.

How do I fix a flow that fails or doesn't trigger?

Open the run history to see which action failed and why. The Errors topic on this page covers the most common messages, including flows that stop after an owner's account is deleted.

Is there a Power Automate certification?

PL-900 covers Power Automate fundamentals. For deeper skills, AB-410 (which replaced PL-200) and AB-400 (replacing PL-400) include Power Automate.
