Last year in December, I wrote a detailed blog post on how to create a custom agent using Agent Builder. Agent Builder is a no-code platform, and it makes it very easy to create agents without writing any code.
At that time, if we wanted to extend the agent with advanced triggers, tools, or custom logic, we usually had to create the agent again in Copilot Studio. Even I believed that rebuilding the agent was the only option.
Recently, I came across a Microsoft post that explained a new feature called “Copy an agent to Copilot Studio.” This caught my attention because it means we can now copy an existing Agent Builder agent directly into Copilot Studio with just a few clicks.
This is very useful because once the agent is copied to Copilot Studio, we can:
- Add triggers
- Use tools and connectors
- Apply advanced logic
- Customize the agent further
Without starting from scratch.

In this tutorial, I will explain how to copy an Agent Builder agent to Copilot Studio step by step.
Copy Agent Builder Agent to Copilot Studio
This is the Agent Builder agent I created, called Blog Post Search Agent.

Follow the steps below to copy the agent:
- In your browser, search m365 Copilot. Sign in using your Microsoft 365 account.

- Select the agent you want to copy, click the 3 dots, then click edit.

- Then click the 3 dots and click Copy to Copilot Studio. Check the screenshot below.

- After clicking Copy to Copilot Studio, a confirmation pop-up appears. Click Get started.

This pop-up explains what will happen when the agent is moved from Agent Builder to Copilot Studio.
- Then select the environment where you want to copy the Copilot Studio. In my case, MSFT (default).

- Once the process is complete, the agent opens automatically in Copilot Studio.

Now the agent is available in Copilot Studio, where I can add triggers, tools, connectors, and advanced logic to extend its functionality.
In this tutorial, I covered how to copy an Agent Builder agent to Copilot Studio step by step.
I showed how to use the Copy to Copilot Studio option, what happens during the copy process, and how the agent opens directly in Copilot Studio, where it can be extended with triggers, tools, and advanced logic.
