Power BI sync slicers
The Power Bi sync slicer is one of the most important features. This feature allows users to sync the newly created slicer to all other pages in the report.
Power BI sync slicers pane
Here we will see how to create a Sync slicer pane in Power BI Desktop.
To create a Sync slicer pane in Power BI, follow the below steps:
- In Power BI Desktop, click on the View tab -> then in the Show panes section -> click on the Sync slicer.

Now, in the middle of the Visualization pane and Filter pane, the Sync slicer pane gets created in Power BI Desktop.

This is how we can configure sync slicer pane in Power BI.
Power BI removes sync slicers
Here we will see how to remove the sync slicer in Power BI.
To remove the Sync slicer pane from the Power BI Desktop, click on the cross icon in the header of the Sync slicer pane.
Next, you can see the Sync slicer pane remove from Power BI Desktop.

This is how we can remove the sync slicer from the Power BI Desktop view.
Power bi sync slicers on the same page
Here we will see how to sync slicer on the same page in Power BI.
For example, we will use the Financial table, here we will create 4 slicers i.e. 2 pairs (Country-Segment, Country-Segment). Based on these 2 pairs of slicers we will filter the Table visuals. In the below screenshot you can see the Report page in Power BI Desktop.

Once you have created the slicers and table visual on the same page as above, then follow the below steps :
- In Power BI Desktop, go to the View tab -> select the Sync slicer option from the ribbon.
- Then Sync slicer pane was added to the Power BI Desktop view.

- Then select the slicer (Segment) from the first group, then in the sync slicer pane, check the box under the Sync option.
- Now we will group both the Segment slicer, so it will work simultaneously, so first click on the Segment Slicer (Group 1). Then in the Sync slicer pane, click on the Advanced options -> then provide the Group name as Segment.

- Next, select another segment slicer from the page, and check the box under the Sync icon. Then provide the same group name. In this case, it is Segment.

- Similarly, sync the Country slicer by creating one group as Country in the Advanced options of the Sync slicer pane.
- Once you sync the slicers, select the data from the slicer to filter the visuals. In this case, I have selected the Country as Canada, and the segment as Government from the Slicers.

This is how we can sync the Slicer on the Same page of Power BI.

Power bi sync slicers across pages
Here we will see how to Sync slicer across pages in Power BI.
For this example, we will use the Financial table, so here we have 2 pages i.e. Page 2 and Page 3, so both the pages have the slicer with the Segment field. When we select the option from the slicer, on one page, then it will select the same option in the slicer on another page.

Now follow the below steps to sync the slicer present in the Multiple pages in Power BI Desktop.
- In Power BI Desktop select the Slicer visual from page 2, -> then in the Sync slicer pane check the box for page 2 and page 3 under the Sync icon.
- Then expand the Advanced option and provide the group name to sync the selection visual.

Now both the slicer gets synced from a different page, select the option from the slicer on one page that will reflect on another page. In this case, I have chosen Midmarket from Page 2, so on page 3 slicer automatically gets selected the Midmarket.

Power bi sync multiple slicers
Here we will see how to sync multiple slicers in multiple pages of Power BI.
For example, we will use the Financial table, so here we have 2 pages, and we will filter the data based on the segment and Product. We will create two slicers for the product and segment field I both the pages, then we will sync both the slicers.

In Power BI Desktop, select the slicer having Segment field from page 2, then in the Sync slicer pane, under the sync icon check the box and then expand the Advanced option and provide the group name.

- Similarly, select the Product slicer, in the Sync slicer pane check the box under the sync icon, then expand the Advanced option, and provide the group name as Product.

Once you sync both the slicer on both the pages, you can filter the pages in the report, so, in this case, we have selected the Segment as Small Business and Product as Velo.

This is an example of power bi sync multiple slicers.
Power bi sync slicers from different tables
The Power BI Sync slicer from different table on same page is possible but it is not possible on different pages.
Power bi sync slicers between reports
The sync slicer between two different reports in Power BI Desktop is not possible, so to filter between the reports we can use the Drill-through feature in Power Bi Desktop.
Power bi sync slicer to card
Here we will see an example Power BI Sync slicer to the card.
For example, we will use the Financial table, so here we have 2 pages i.e. Page 2 and page 3, so on the Page 3 slicer is hidden, we will add the card visual to the page 3 which displays the values selected from the Page 2.

Once you have created the report, follow the sync slicer to the card in Power BI below.
- In Power BI Desktop, click on the slicer, in the slicer pane
- check the box under the sync icon for both the pages.
- uncheck the box under the eye icon for page 3, to hide the slicer.
- then expand the Advanced option, and provide the group name.
Now you can see from page 3 that the slicer is not there, it is hidden.

- Now we will create a measure, which we will use in the card visual, to show the selected value from the Slicer on Page 2.
- To create a new measure, go to the Modelling tab -> select the New Measure from the ribbon. then write the below formula in the Formula box:
Measure = IF (
HASONEVALUE (Table1[Product]),
SELECTEDVALUE (Table1[Product]),
"Not Selected"
)
- Once you create a measure, select the card visual from the visualization pane, then add the Measure from the Field pane.

- Now select the value from the slicer visual on page 2, it will filter page 3, and also it will show the value selected on Page 2 slicer in Card visual. In this case, I have selected Paseo, so it will show the Paseo in Card visual in Power BI Desktop.

This is an example of a power bi sync slicer to card.

Power bi undo sync slicers
Here we will see how to undo the sync slicer in Power BI.
Sometimes after removing the sync slicer pane, the filter does not remove from the page. So the reason is:
There are some hidden slicers are there in the Power BI report page, even if you removed the sync slicer, the filter is not removed. So, go to the View tab -> in the Show section and select the Selection pane. Here you can see the hidden slicer(which doesn’t have an eye icon). Turn on the eye icon and remove the slicer from the report page.
Power bi sync date slicers
Here we will see how to sync the date slicer in Power BI.
For example, we will use the Financial table, so here we will sync the date slicer present on page 4 and page 5 in the Power BI report.

Once you have the report page with the date slicer, you can follow the below steps to sync the slicer.
- In Power BI Desktop, select the slicer on Page 4, then in the Sync slicer pane, check the box under the eye icon for Page 4 and Page 5.
- Next click on Advanced Options, then provide the group name as Date.

Once you sync the date slicer, we can use the slicer to filter both the report pages (page 4 and page 5. In this case, we want to filter the data between 9/1/2021 -12/25/2021.

This is an example of power bi sync date slicers.

power bi sync hierarchy slicers
Here we will see how to sync the hierarchy slicer in Power BI.
For example, we will use the Financial table, using the table we have created a report. In this report, we will sync hierarchical slicers (Country, product) present on Page 4 and Page 5.

Once you have created a hierarchical slicer on pages, follow the below steps to sync the slicer:
- In Power BI Desktop, select the hierarchical slicer from page 4, then in the Sync slicer pane, select the box under the eye icon for Page 4 and Page 5.

Once you sync the slicer, now you can filter both the page on a single slicer. In this case, we have selected Country as France and Product as Amarilla.

This is an example of power bi sync hierarchy slicers.
Power bi sync slicers one way
Power BI sync slicer feature cannot filter in one way because the sync slicer feature helps the slicer to filter the data in Bi-direction, that means if we will connect 2 slicers then do select any of the data in any one slicer it will reflect on another slicer.
Power bi sync slicers on the dashboard
The sync slicer feature is not available for Dashboard in Power BI Service, it is only available for Report view.
Power bi sync slicers to specific visual
Here we will see an example of a Power BI Sync slicer to a specific visual.
For this example, we will use the Financial table, and create a report, and we will sync the country slicer on Page 4 and Page 5. But when we slice the data on page 4, it will only slice the table visual on Page 5 with the help of the Edit interaction feature.

Once you have created the report, next follow the below steps to sync the slicer on a specific visual.
- In Power BI Desktop to sync the slicer on both the pages, select the slicer on Page 4, then in the Sync slicer pane, select the box under the Sync icon for page 5.
- Expand the Advanced option and provide the Group name as Sync slicer.

- Now go to Page 5, then select the Format tab -> click on Edit interaction.
- Select the Slicer visual, and stop the interaction with other visuals except that specific visual you want to Filter by selecting none icon. In this case, I will only filter the table visual, so that I stop interaction between the slicer and all other visuals.

Once you are done with the sync slicer and edit interaction, you can filter the data. In this case, we filter the page based on Canada, and for page 5 it will only filter the Table visual.

This is an example of a Power BI sync slicer to a specific visual.
