What is Yammer?
Yammer is a Social networking Service that can be called as Enterprise Social Network. Yammer allows to do private communication with users/employees within Organizations and also outside of your Organizations (with external users only).
Yammer was developed by a former PayPal executive in 2008. In 2012, Microsoft purchased Yammer for a whopping $1.2 billion. Now, this is used by 85 percent of fortune 500 companies in the entire world.
Yammer is a part of your Office 365 subscription which provides you many familiar tools for collaborating with others in your company. This contains many Suggested Groups, Suggested People, Networks, a Feed, etc.
Get the Yammer App & Desktop Version
You can easily get the Yammer App by using Microsoft Office 365 App Launcher which is Online version. Also, You can access your Desktop application.

Access Yammer through Microsoft Office 365/Desktop
We can access Yammer by using two different ways as
- Using Microsoft Office 365 App Launcher
- Using Yammer Desktop Application
Yammer Using Microsoft Office 365
To get Online access of Yammer, At first, Sign in your Office 365 Account, Go to Office 365 App Launcher -> Click on Yammer.

Sign in your Office 365 Yammer Account. Once the Sign in is completed, it will look like the below screenshot.

Yammer Using Desktop Application
To get Yammer through Desktop, Download the Yammer Application (either 32 bit or 64 bit) in your Local System (links are provided above). Then Sign in your Yammer Account. Once sign-in is completed, Yammer will appear as shown below:

Yammer License Cost
Below table represents about Yammer License Cost. Two standalone versions are coming in Yammer: Yammer Basic standalone which is FREE and Yammer Enterprise Standalone which costs USD 3 per user per month.
Similarly, there are some SharePoint Online Yammer Enterprise (Plan 1/Plan 2) which cost is a little bit much as compared to Basic and Enterprise Standalone.
Some of the Office 365 E Plans 1-4 Yammer Enterprise is there which cost is much more than all the Enterprise plans.

How to integrate Yammer with
Office 365 and SharePoint?
You can add a Yammer feed or functionality to Office 365 Group and as well as SharePoint. You can integrate Yammer with these below options:
- Integrate Yammer with Office 365 Groups
- Integrate Yammer with Microsoft Teams
- Integrate Yammer with Modern SharePoint
Integrate Yammer with Office 365 Groups:
To connect a Yammer feed to an Office 365 Groups, Follow the below processes:
In Yammer, Click on left side Gear icon -> Network Admin as shown in below.

In the Network Admin page, Click on Security Settings which is present under Content and Security.

In Security Settings, Check the Enforce Office 365 identity which is present under Office 365 Identity Enforcement.

Once you will check the check box of Enforce Office 365 identity, the next screen will appear like below screenshot.
Select the Most Appreciate Level of Enforcement as “Committed Enforcement” and then click on Okay.

Now you can see that Enforce Office 365 identity option is already checked. Now Save it.

Integrate Yammer with Microsoft Teams
You can add a Yammer feed in Microsoft Teams. As of now, Yammer Tab is not present in Microsoft Teams. Instead of Yammer Tab, you can add a regular website Yammer tab using embed.
There are two different ways to create a regular Yammer Tab wherein both cases use a ‘website‘ tab in Microsoft Teams.
- Using Yammer Website Address URL
- Using Yammer Embed URL
Using Yammer Website Address URL:
Open your Office 365 Microsoft Teams. In Microsoft Teams, Click on “+” option to add the “Website” tab.

Go to Yammer, Copy the link of the feed from the address bar as shown below.

In the Website tab, Enter the name of the Tab and Paste that address bar URL as like below screenshot. Click on Save.

Once you will click on Save, You can see the Yammer Tab (Yammer Teams) will appear on the top of the Microsoft Teams as like below.

Using Yammer Embed URL:
Another approach to creating a Yammer Tab is using Yammer Embed URL.
In the same way of above, Open your Office 365 Microsoft Teams. In Microsoft Teams, Click on “+” option to add the “Website” tab.
Go to Yammer, Copy the feedId of the Yammer group from the address bar as shown below.
The feedId is the number which is present after the equals (=) sign. Here my FeedId is “15267274“.

In the Website tab, Enter the name of the Tab and Paste that Yammer feedId as in the below-given format:
https://www.yammer.com/embed-feed?feedType=group&feedId=15267274
As my feedId is 15267274, So I have entered feedId=15267274 as like below screenshot. Then click on “Save“.

Once you will click on Save, You can see the Yammer Tab (Yammer Teams with Embed) will appear on the top of the Microsoft Teams as like below.

Integrate Yammer with Modern SharePoint:
Integration of Yammer feed with Modern SharePoint Page which looks better and realistic. For this purposes, Now Modern SharePoint Page introduced with a special Conversations Web Part.
In Modern SharePoint Page, Click on “+” symbol and search “Conversations” Web Part as shown below.

Once you will add the Conversations Web Part, Click on edit option. Select the conversation source as “Group” and search the source (Yammer Group name).
Now you can see your Yammer Group will appear in the Conversations web part.

Add Yammer to Microsoft Teams
This will show you how we can add a Yammer tab to Microsoft Teams. By adding a Yammer Group to Microsoft Teams which helps the user can do easily conversations with their team. Also, a user can view a group, a topic feed easily.
To add a Yammer tab in Microsoft Teams, Open your Office 365 Microsoft Teams. In Microsoft Teams, Click on “+” option to add the “Yammer” tab as like below screenshot.

While you will click on the Yammer tab, the below screen will appear. Just click on “Install“.

After clicking on Install, the next below page will display where you have to select the Content Type and Search.
There are two types of Content Type as:
- Yammer Group: This Content Type helps to visible all messages to the user in the particular selected group.
- Topic Feed: This Content Type helps to visible all messages to the user with the selected topic hashtag, for example, “#EmployeeName“.
Similarly, In the Search box, enter your Yammer group name or topic which you want to include. Click on “Save“.

Now you can see the new Yammer tab (Group Name) shows up in the tab bar for in the Microsoft Teams page.

Why do companies use Yammer?
There are various reasons why organizations or companies use Yammer. For various departments, you can create Yammer groups in Yammer.
Your teams can use these groups to ask questions or share ideas with others. You can take suggestions from other members of the group. Within your teams, you can share best practices, quality related documents, discussions, etc.
Suppose you have created a group for your developer team to share development best practices or any kind of related documents. Once you add into the group, the information will always be available and also other users can check those information.

The most relevant business app is Yammer where people can communicate within and out of the organization. You can do easily conversations with your team or with an external user throughout the World.
