SharePoint 2013, 2016, 2010 and Moss 2007 End of Support Roadmap

If your organization is still using MOSS 2007, SharePoint 2010 or SharePoint 2013 or SharePoint 2016 then you should look at the SharePoint support end date roadmap.

This article will give an overview of SharePoint server 2007 (MOSS 2007) end of life, SharePoint 2010 end of life and SharePoint 2013 end of life and SharePoint 2016 end of life details.

If you are still not moved to SharePoint Online Office 365 or SharePoint 2019 on-premise, then you should have a look at SharePoint end of support roadmap.

This article also explains the SharePoint designer 2013 mainstream support date and extended support date.

In your organization, you should now plan to migrate to SharePoint online or to SharePoint on-premise latest versions. In my point of view, you should now start planning to migrate to SharePoint 2019 rather to SharePoint 2016.

What End of Support Means?

Every product has a support lifecycle, and during those time Microsoft usually released new features, security and bug fixes etc. and post date period is known as End of Support where Microsoft will no longer provide:

  • Any technical support for any problems
  • No more bug fixes for any issues or for anything reported related to stability and usability of the SharePoint server.
  • No more Security updates and time zone updates

What does mean by Mainstream Support and Extended Support End Date means?

Now, we should understand what Microsoft’s mainstream and extended support mean?

Microsoft’s mainstream support means, Microsoft will support the first phase product lifecycle, supports like security updates, new features, bug fixes if any think found etc.

Extended supports comes after mainstream support period. During this time you will get less support. But during this period, Microsoft will not add any new features and will not provides any support but will provide paid support but it will provide security updates except bug fixes and patches.

What’s Next? (Migrate to SharePoint Online or SharePoint Server 2019)

If your organization is still using SharePoint 2007/2010/2013, you can plan to migrate to SharePoint Online or SharePoint 2019.

If you do not have any dependency on the on-premise environment then you can migrate to SharePoint Online Office 365. There are plenty of advantages of using SharePoint online, read an article on Difference between SharePoint online and SharePoint on-premise.

If you do not want to go to SharePoint online Office 365, and want to use an on-premise version of SharePoint, then as you know Microsoft has already released SharePoint server 2019 on-premise versions, you should plan to migrate to SharePoint 2019 rather than SharePoint 2016 now.

Because SharePoint 2019 is coming with lots of new features like a modern team site, modern list, libraries, site pages etc. You can download a FREE PDF on SharePoint 2019 which has SharePoint 2019 installation steps, new features and the first look at SharePoint 2019 modern team sites.
