This SharePoint tutorial, we will discuss an error “Microsoft .net framework 4.6 installation error” which comes while installing SharePoint 2016 prerequisiteinstaller.exe.
If you want to install SharePoint 2016, make sure to check the hardware and software requirements of SharePoint 2016 before installing SharePoint 2016.
I was running the Pre-requisites and after running for few updates it gave the error “Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6: installation error” like below:
The error was coming because of the prerequisiteinstaller.exe was unable to install .NET Framework 4.6. So we need to download and install .NET Framework 4.6 offline.
The solution for Microsoft .net framework 4.6 installation error:
First Download .NET Framework 4.6 and click on double click on the setup file to install. But when you run the setup, you might get the below error:
Setup has detected that this computer does not meet the requirements to complete this operation. The following blocking issues must be resolved before you can proceed.
Blocking Issues:
The update corresponding to KB2919335 needs to be installed before you can install this product on Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
To install KB2919335, we need to install a few more updates. Follow below steps and after each installation, you need to restart the machine before proceeding for other installation.
Download and Install KB2919442
First, download and install KB2919442.
Once you click on Yes, KB2919442 installation will start like below:
Once the installation will over, Restart the machine, before going to the next step.
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and .NET Framework 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2:
Then you need to install another update “Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and .NET Framework 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2”.
If you are using a 64-bit machine, then download “Windows8.1-KB2898850-x64.msu” and install.
The installation will progress like below:
Once the installation is over, Restart the machine once before proceeding further.
Download and Install KB2919355
Finally, we need to download and install Windows Server 2012 R2 Update (KB2919355). There will be few files there to download, just download and install “Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu“. This is a very large file around 700 MB. It will take at least 4-5 hours at least. So do not worry, if it is taking some more time.
The installation will progress like below:
Once the installation will over, restart the machine before installing .NET Framework 4.6.
Install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6
Now re-run .NET Framework 4.6 setup and this time, the installation will start.
The installation will begin like below:
This will display, to close some of the programmes.
You can see the installation is going on.
Once the installation is over, you can see a successful message like below:
Once Microsoft .net framework 4.6 installation is over, you can now run SharePoint 2016 “prerequisiteinstaller.exe” and it will start the Microsoft AppFabric 1.1 will start the installation.
After this, you should be able to install SharePoint 2016.
