This SharePoint tutorial explains, how to create a SharePoint group and then we will see how to add a user to the SharePoint group. Create and add a user to a SharePoint group by using the browser in SharePoint 2013/2016/2019 or SharePoint Online.
I have used a SharePoint Online site here, but the same steps will work in SharePoint 2013/2016 also.
First, we will see how to create SharePoint group. Open SharePoint Online site and then go to Site Settings then click on “Site permissions” which is under Users and Permissions.
Then in the Site Permissions page click on Create Group button which is presented in the Ribbon.
Then this will open Create Group page. Here provide a Group Name, give a short description in the About Me field and Add a Group Owner etc.
Then in the Give Group Permission to this Site, choose What permission you want to give to the SharePoint group like:
- Full Control
- View Only
You can read an article on How to Create a Custom Permission Level in SharePoint?
Once, you click on Create, the SharePoint group will be created where you can add a user to SharePoint group. The SharePoint group looks like below:
Now we can see how we can add user to SharePoint group. In that SharePoint group, click on New -> Add Users like below:
Then it will show the Share dialog box, here provide the username like below and then click on Share like below:
You can see below, the users will be added to the SharePoint group.
